Amazing (& intimate) set from the Hounds Below at Union Hall on Thursday. Too busy foot-tapping/enjoying the sound to take pictures (wasn’t there on assignment), but here’s a post-show shot. Music sounds like its from another era, especially the song “Love’s no longer Here.” Not many bands can get to the core of a great rock song in 2 minutes or less. As a former college radio DJ who used to cram as much music as possible into a 1-hour slot, I admit to being a sucker for efficiency. Garage rock/surf rock from the 60s, specifically THE SONICS, DICK DALE…were experts in delivering catchy, short, singles. BUt, back to present day, the Hounds Below, deliver as well. Their cover of THE PIXIES “Where is my Mind” just made it sweeter. Next time when they grace NY, don’t miss out!!!
